Jacqueline (Janaki) Gallelli
Dance Instructor
Jacqueline (a.k.a. Janaki) Gallelli has been a gymnast and dancer
for 13 years, specializing in Hip-Hop, lyrical, and stylish jazz.
Also, she has taken classes for many different styles of dance such
as: Tahitian dancing, African tribal dancing, Irish dancing, Salsa,
Meringue, and lastly Tango Dancing. Janaki has danced at studios
such as: SD Dance Centre, and Danceology, as well as taken part
in both her Middle School and High School dance teams. She also
got the chance to travel with the Westview Dance Troupe to New York
City to study at numerous dance centers such as: The Broadway Dance
Center and Martha Graham’s School of Contemporary Dance. Lastly
Janaki had the opportunity to compete in a mock Broadway audition
where she was considered ‘cast’ for the part. During
her career in dancing Janaki has choreographed numerous pieces in
team dance concerts, as well as for community camps that she has
helped organize and create.
Janaki
is currently attending SD Community College, with intent to transfer
to San Diego State University to obtain her Bachelors in Business.
Janaki is hoping to add a ‘lil’ of her own art and heart,’
into Lil’ Arts.
Maria
Teles Parenteau
Art Instructor
Maria
is a native Brazilian who chose to follow her dreams to America
after completing schooling at the French Art Academy in Brasilia,
Brazil. Maria focused on drawing originally but than chose to pursue
techniques in acrylic, watercolor and pastel painting as well as
a variety of crafts as she became immersed in the American culture.
Her travels led her to Boston, where she was elected as a member
of the Cambridge Art Association. Soon after that, she began dedicating
time to the teaching of arts to children of all ages, leading to
a staff position in the Masters Academy, a private school in Massachusetts.
From there Maria went on to what she considers her most rewarding
experience in teaching, instructing troubled teenagers placed in
a state run secure detention facility. Maria currently resides in
San Diego with her husband and is dedicating all of her time to
further developing her talents. She is currently completing a series
of paintings that was started 16 years ago named, “Birds,
Just Birds”, a collection which plays on the imagery of birds
representing life situations, dreams and hidden secrets.
Kathleen Sorensen has been singing since the age of 5. She began singing and dancing in high school and developed a love for Musical Theatre. After High school she began performing with local companies and venues in San Diego, such as the Evoke Dance Theatre and performed shows at the Old Globe Theatre. Wanting to continue to master her craft, Kathleen moved to Hollywood and attended the American Musical Dramatic Academy. While in Hollywood, she did numerous musicals and also sang backup for Barbara Streisand. She now has her degree in Musical Theatre and is passionate for teaching children. She wants to help kids strive for and reach their dreams in the performing arts.
